What’s new? lkldnow.com

logo400It’s been a busy month in Lakeland, Florida. I finally launched lkldnow.com – mobile news to connect you to Lakeland.

Reaction has been great. I had my best day ever yesterday, driven by a story I broke about a $13 million plan to buy and renovate Lakeland Cash Feed into a much larger home for Catapult.

I wasn’t kidding when I designated lkldnow a mobile site. So far, 60 percent of our traffic is coming from mobile devices, and another 13 percent is from tablets.

While I post frequently to Twitter — it’s a great platform for sharing news — and almost daily to Instagram, I’m finding tremendous engagement on Facebook. As I suspected, it’s where a lot of my natural audience spends time.

This morning I noticed that the date I chose for our official launch event was a week short of the one-year anniversary of posting an early social media aggregation test on this site.

Many thanks to Steve Antley, my former Ledger colleague, for creating a distinctive logo.

I’ll share more site results around the one-month marker. To learn more about lkldnow, check the About Us page.

For now, suffice it to say I’m having fun exploring ways to combine digital journalism and social media to get people engaged with their community.
